Ceramic Braces- Getting Those Suckers on!

Hey y’all 🙂 About a month ago I got my clear ceramic braces! I had so much to tell you about it, I decided to make a video covering the whole process of getting them on; what to expect; and why I didn’t get Invisalign. Because this video is a hunkin’ fourteen minutes long, this will be a quick little summary to what I said (with maybe a little bit more detail added here and there).

<<  To the left is a picture of me right after I got out of the orthodontist and got my braces on. You can see they look a bit unnatural, but this is because I haven't eaten with them 🙂 Haha sorry if I look a bit disheveled, I was sitting in a chair for two hours waiting for my braces to be finished.

1. Choosing the right orthodontist– Find an orthodontist who cares about your teeth. You don’t want some mean orthodontist who handles your teeth roughly and only agrees to give you your braces for the money! If you are unsure of which orthodontist to go to, try to find some in your area by asking your friends and family, and set up a meeting with the orthodontist to see if they are “the one.”

2. The first checkup– The orthodontist assistants take X-rays, pictures, and a mold of your teeth (to know more about this whole process and how painful it is, watch the video). You get spacers (again, refer to my video to learn more about what they do and how they feel) that you keep in your teeth for about a week or whenever it is time for you to receive your braces.

Want to know what that thing is?  >>
Well, you have to watch the video to find out! 🙂

3. The real thing– You finally get your braces on after waiting for a whole week! Hooray for you, you get to experience more pain! For me, this was a two hour process of cleaning my teeth, taking the spacers out and replacing them with rubber bands, putting the actual ceramic braces, getting bite bumps, and receiving my gift bag with all the supplies I needed to care for my teeth! Trust me, it hurts a lot more than you think, especially with the evil saliva sucker thingie (again, watch the video if you want to know more about my thoughts and delve more into detail). Right after I got out of the orthodontist I saw that there were these weird colored dots that were on a few of the ceramic braces itself, but eventually they went away in a matter of days. These were just markers for the orthodontist so they knew where to place each one of the ceramic braces on my teeth.

4. The pain– Out of all the pain I got from my braces, all the sores and blood in my mouth, I have to say the bite bumps were far by the worst out of all. They felt like my teeth were on top of mountains! I kept moving my tongue on top of the bite bumps because they were so uncomfortable, but this just lead to getting more sores! During that first week, I recommend you buy a ton of applesauce and pudding. Soup is okay, but smoothies feel a lot nicer because they are not as hard and chunky. Take aspirin or some kind of pain killer right after you get out of the orthodontist, because it’s going to hurt! For me, it felt like all my teeth were loose! This pain lasts for about a week, but eventually it fades away. And don’t worry, the bite bumps wear down, so eventually you won’t have a huge uncomfortable mountain on your molars! Also, do not use an electric toothbrush until at least some of the pain goes away. For the whole week, I used an ultra soft toothbrush.

5. Listen to what your orthodontist says– If they say don’t eat chewy foods, DON’T EAT CHEWY FOODS. If they say don’t eat hard foods, DON’T EAT HARD FOODS. So far, I’ve broken those rules… too many times to count. But if you want to keep your hygiene, do what your orthodontist says because trust me, when you get your braces off after however many months or years, you’ll be extremely happy with your results.

6. Brush your teeth during lunch– Yes, I know many people with braces don’t do this, but I do. Again, keep your hygiene and you’ll have sparkly teeth when you get your braces off!

7. Good luck!– For those of you getting braces, I wish you luck! It’s not as bad as it seems, so don’t worry! Just think about it: once your braces get off, your teeth will be pretty pearls!

Yesterday I just got my braces tightened, so I’ll update you guys on how it feels and also the process of that later on! 🙂

Bye for now,

Ceramic Braces- Getting Those Suckers on!

Hi, about a month ago I got my clear ceramic braces! I had so much to tell you about it, I decided to make a video covering the whole process of getting them on; what to expect; and why I didn’t get Invisalign. Because this video is fourteen minutes long, this will be a quick little summary covering the main points of the video.

Watch the video to find out why my teeth are blue!

2. The first checkup– The orthodontist assistants take X-rays, pictures, and a mold of your teeth (to know more about this whole process and how painful it is, watch the video). You get spacers that you keep in your teeth for about a week or whenever it is time for you to receive your braces.

Trust me, it hurts a lot more than you think, especially with the evil saliva sucker. Right after I got out of the orthodontist, I noticed that there were these weird colored dots that were on a few of the ceramic braces itself, but eventually they went away in a matter of days. The orthodontist had later told me that the dots were just markers for him so they he where to place each of the ceramic braces on my teeth.

4. The pain– Out of all the pain I got from my braces, I have to say the “bite blocks” were far by the worst of all. “Bite blocks” are these white, hard bumps placed on the back of your molars in order to keep your teeth from grinding your braces. Although they were supposed to help my teeth, I felt like my teeth were on top of mountains and I kept moving my tongue on top of the bite bumps because they were so uncomfortable. During that first week, I recommend you buy a lot of soft foods and take aspirin right after you get out of the orthodontist. I felt like all my teeth were loose during that first week, but fortunately, the pain only lasted for about a week. Also, I recommend not to use an electric toothbrush during the first week and use an ultra soft toothbrush instead.

5. Listen to what your orthodontist says– If your orthodontist says, “don’t eat chewy foods,” DON’T EAT CHEWY FOODS. If they say, “don’t eat hard foods,” DON’T EAT HARD FOODS. So far, I’ve broken those rules… too many times to count. But if you want to keep your hygiene, do what your orthodontist says because trust me, when you get your braces off after however many months or years, you’ll be extremely happy with your results.
